Applying for Certification

The Teleport Certification Program provides four levels of certification, from Tier 4 to Tier 1.  Each level reflects a set of clear and objective standards for facilities, technology and operating procedures. Certification at one of these levels indicates, at a minimum, that the teleport complies with the standards of that level.

Teleports new to the program have the option of requesting provisional or full certification.  In either case, the teleport operator registers at the WTA site and completes a detailed questionnaire.

Provisional Certification

For provisional certification, WTA reviews the questionnaire and, if its standards are met, issues a provisional certification, clearly indicating that is based solely on self-evaluation. The teleport is listed as provisionally certified in WTA’s online registry of certified facilities.  Provisional certification remains in effect for one year, after which the teleport must re-certify or agree to full certification through an onsite audit or be de-listed.. - Fee Schedule

Full Certification

Teleports can proceed from provisional to full certification through an onsite inspection by a WTA-designated auditor. The auditor’s report recommends for or against certification at the indicated level, or at a higher or lower level.  WTA issues a full certification at the recommended level and updates its online registry.  Full certification remain in effect for three years, after which the teleport must re-certify through an onsite audit or be de-listed.

WTA charges fees for provisional and full certification as well as reimbursement of auditor travel expenses. Discounted fees are offered to WTA members as well as to operators seeking to certify multiple teleports. - Fee Schedule

Appeal Process

If you disagree with the auditor’s report, you may submit your objections in writing for consideration by the auditor and WTA, after which a final rating will be issued.

Confidentiality

WTA maintains all data provided by teleports undergoing Certification in complete confidence and does not share it with third parties.  Data provided during Provisional Certification is maintained on secure servers in accordance with WTA’s Privacy Policy. Auditors executed a Non-Disclosure Agreement before engaging in work with WTA.  Copies of the audit report are provided only to the teleport operator undergoing certification with digital versions stored on secure servers.  WTA will gladly execute an NDA with operators undergoing certification at their request.

Online Registry

WTA maintains an up-to-date online registry of certified teleports and provide teleport operators with links to their online statement of certification as well as a certification logo for display in marketing.

Completing the Online Questionnaire

The Certification questionnaire calls for information about facilities, technology and procedures, which typically requires input from several members of your team.  The online version makes it easy to assign different sections of the questionnaire to different people, so that all may work on it at the same time.  Team members may complete part of a section, save the form, and return later to work on it again. When the questionnaire is complete, simply notify WTA at certification@worldteleport.org and we will download the data you have entered.
