Gascom was renamed to Gazprom Space Systems, leveraging the reputation for reliability and stability of its primary shareholder Gazprom. Gazprom is one of the world’s biggest gas companies, dealing with gas prospecting, production, transportation, processing, and sales both in Russia and abroad.

In October, the company announced the addition of two more TV channels - Smile of Child and Bridge TV - to be broadcast via the Yamal-201 satellite for RRsat.  Targeted at an audience of 4-12 year olds, Smile of Child is broadcast 24 hours a day and reaches Russian-speaking people in 160 countries.  Bridge TV is a Russian satellite music channel presenting a modern and positive view on life and music, targeting young and active audience.

The company recently made public its growth plans through 2015, including placing eight new satellites into orbit and building a new teleport in the Moscow region.  The first step of implementing the growth plan is already underway with the Yamal-301 and 302 satellites under construction by the Russian satellite manufacturer Energia. Step two is securing the financing for two additional satellites, Yamal-401 and 402, which the company is expecting to finalize by the end of 2008.

Gazprom Space Systems ’s orbital fleet currently consists of three middle-size satellites:  Yamal-100 and 201 are co-located at 90ºE and serve primarily the Russian/CIS market; Yamal-202 operates at 49ºE with a wide coverage area across most of the Eastern hemisphere.  The company operates four teleports in Moscow and the surrounding region, which are connected with main Moscow backbones via a fiber network, as well as access to earth stations throughout Russia. The company has built a solid reputation as a satellite operator, service provider and systems integrator.
