Acquisition of one of the UK’s largest WiFi hotspot providers accelerates Arqiva’s wholesale mobile business growthArqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company, today announced that its offer for Spectrum Interactive, originally announced on July 2, 2012, was declared unconditional in all respects. Accordingly, the acquisition of Spectrum Interactive has effectively completed. As part of the transaction, approximately 70 Spectrum Interactive employees will become part of the Arqiva group from today.
"This acquisition will strengthen Arqiva’s WiFi proposition and will enable us to build a unique proposition for WiFi hotspot provision in the UK. We welcome the skilled and passionate employees from Spectrum Interactive to the Arqiva group and look forward to working with them to continue to deliver a great service to existing customers,” said John Cresswell, CEO, Arqiva. "Further, as the only provider of wholesale-only WiFi hot spots in the UK we’re well positioned to satisfy increasing demand from landlords for in-building WiFi.”
The acquisition of Spectrum Interactive gives Arqiva 15,500 access points in over 2,100 premium WiFi locations across hotels, restaurants and leisure outlets as well as airports, airline lounges, motorway service station and public locations on high streets. When combined with Arqiva’s existing WiFi and cellular assets it gives Arqiva a highly scalable platform for meeting the growing demand for wholesale mobile data services.
