Anita Currie of Hong Kong's REACH and M.N. Vyas of India's Essel Shyam Join World Teleport Association Board of Directors
(New York - July 18, 2007 - For Immediate Release) The World Teleport Association announced that two senior communications executives from Asia joined its Board of Directors at the beginning of the Association's 2007 fiscal year.
Anita Currie, appointed by the Board to fill a vacant seat, is Director of Global Satellite Services for REACH, the Hong Kong-based provider of international voice and satellite services in Asia. With investments in more than 40 submarine cables and landing rights, backhaul, operating licenses and bilateral agreements in most major markets, REACH operates a network stretching over 364,000 km around the globe. REACH was formed in 2001 as a joint venture of the international businesses of Hong Kong's PCCW and Australia's Telstra.
M.N. Vyas, Director of Essel Shyam Communications in Noida, India, was elected to a three-year term beginning April 2007. The first Indian national to serve on WTA's Board, Mr. Vyas is a full-time Director on the Board and a senior executive of India's first competitive teleport operator offering MCPC and SCPC platforms on AsiaSat, Intelsat, Thaicom, INSAT and other satellites. Essel Shyam provides end-to-end satellite communications infrastructure and services for media content, wide area networks, Internet, intranets and other network services. A joint venture between Essel Group and Shyam Group formed in 1996, the company also provides IT services, knowledge process outsourcing (KPO), business process outsourcing (BPO) and IT and telecom infrastructure development.
WTA's Board is made up of senior representatives of the teleport sector of the satellite industry from around the world, including Olivier Badard, Senior Vice President, Thales Alenia Space; Dr. Gerhard Bommas, CTO of ND SatCom; Gary Hatch, CEO of ATCI; Jon Kirchner, Vice President, Loral Skynet; Michael Noon, Vice President, SES AMERICOM; Nick Thompson, Managing Director of Arqiva Satellite Media Solutions; and Malcolm Warren, Director, Asia-Pacific, ViaSat. The current Chairman of the Board is Chris Russell, a principal of Henley Partners International who was co-founder of Teleport London International. Andrew Stimson, Managing Director, Intelsat Global Sales & Marketing, serves as Secretary General.
