JSAT International, a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of JSAT Corp., provides highly reliable North American Ku-band coverage via its Horizons 1 satellite located at 127º West. Horizons 1 lifted off from the Sea Launch Platform and the Pacific Ocean, on September 30, 2003, propelled by a Zenit-3SL rocket. The launch was a tremendous success, placing Horizons 1 into its Geostationary orbit at 127º W with incredible accuracy. This 9,081-lb. Boeing 601HP spacecraft carries 48 active transponders: 24 in Ku-band and 24 in C-band.
Horizons 1 is owned and operated by Horizons, a JSAT and Intelsat joint venture. JSAT markets the Ku-capacity through its US subsidiary, JSAT International. It is one of the few satellites that provides Ku-band coverage of all fifty US states. Full and partial transponder leases are available.
A second satellite, Horizons 2, is planned for launch in the third quarter of 2007. Located at 74º W, Horizons 2 will replace Intelsat's SBS-6 satellite. The Orbital Sciences STAR-2 spacecraft will provide powerful CONUS coverage of the US and will also provide a beam focused on the east coast of the United States. Sixteen of its 24 Ku-band transponders are 36 MHz with 85 W of power; four are 72 MHz with 150 W of power.
In addition, JSAT International can help North American customers obtain access on any of the other nine in-orbit satellites in the JSAT Corporation fleet. JSAT Corp., the 2006 recipient of the ISCe Leadership Award, has been the leading Japanese satellite operator and the largest in Asia since its formation in 1985. JSAT was the first to provide Ku band service in Japan, was one of the first in Asia to provide satellite news gathering services, and has led in efforts to provide distance learning and disaster communications in Asia. JSAT also provides satellite services to SkyPerfecTV, the leading digital DBS provider in Japan.
JSAT International also works with partners to assist its customers in developing customized satellite-based networks for applications such as digital signage, distance learning, corporate communications, and IPTV. Its goal is to provide service that exceeds customer expectations.
JSAT International Inc. (JII), a U.S.-based wholly owned subsidiary of JSAT, is responsible for sales and marketing of VSAT networks, IP-based content distribution and digital video transmission in North America. These services will be offered via the Horizons-1 satellite, launchded in October 2003. JII is also working to create new avenues for growth in the U.S. market.
