Intelsat’s Fuchsstadt Teleport, is located in the heart of central Germany near the small German townships of Fuchsstadt and Hammelburg. Fuchsstadt is one of Intelsat’s primary commercial sites and also carries Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) and communications monitoring traffic.
Fuchsstadt is equipped with two redundant Gensets systems, one each for Emergency Power Supply (EPS) and one for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. The redundant UPS is based on state-of-the-art diesel dynamic systems – using low speed flywheels to store kinetic energy thus eliminating batteries, which not only protects against commercial power failures but also against power dips or power spikes.
As a former earth station and domestic fiber node facility of Deutsche Telekom (DT), Fuchsstadt has inherent fiber path diversity within DT`s network and is being further enhanced by an alternate carrier with last mile provisioning by fall 2007. In addition, the teleport is linked to the domestic US 10 Gig fiber ring via a 2.5 Gig European fiber ring (as of fall 2007) accessing Intelsat terrestrial POPs in Frankfurt, London, New York, and McLean, Virginia.
Fuchsstadt features 50 antennas, two of which are 32-meter standard A antennas, and seven more which are 16 meters or larger. Fuchsstadt’s antenna field has visibility to satellites located in both Atlantic and Indian Ocean regions (75E- 304E), giving Fuchsstadt the ability to provide C- and Ku-band telecommunication services to Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. Fuchsstadt is currently Intelsat’s primary teleport for commercial services, including Intelsat’s GXS line of managed services and video services as well as the hosting of CoLo equipment and antennas. It also carries Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) and communications monitoring services traffic.
Fuchsstadt is staffed by operations professionals 24/7/365 to ensure immediate response to all customer service issues and equipment failures. It has a consistent redundancy policy in place across all systems and equipment to allow automatic switching in case of failure being complemented by state-of-the-art monitoring and control tools across all areas for proactive operations.
