The complete project is aimed at providing Internet in remote and marginal localities within the country, which will benefit over 2 million individuals.
Last year, in November, the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT), announced the award of the public bid for contracting Internet connectivity, through satellite operators within the private industry, to sites in marginal areas, public health facilities, educational facilities, community centers, among others.
The public tender was composed by four items, of which the biggest region, integrated by 2,717 sites located in the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatán, was awarded to Elara Comunicaciones.
Elara Comunicaciones is in charge of the equipment, installation, operation and maintenance of the remote stations assigned, besides offering the satellite segment, jointly with its suppliers.
"Connectivity in these sites will have a bandwidth of 1,024 kbps per site, while in some sites an external wireless access point (WiFi), with a coverage ratio of 250 meters will be installed in order to provide free Internet access to the residents of these localities by means of wireless devices”, informed the SCT.
