Teleports are highly specialized facilities that play a critical role in connecting space-based and terrestrial networks.They are filled with a broad range of equipment, some that has been custom-engineered for the facility and some that is commercial off-the-shelf gear with resale value. They are licensed by the telecom regulator to deliver particular kinds of service. Their surrounding geography and radio frequency environment helps determines what satellites they can access and what frequencies they can operate on, and their location and layout influence the types of terrestrial connectivity they have. And in many cases, they are the hubs not only of communications traffic but of an entire business, including customer contracts and vendor liabilities that could be transferred to a new owner. All of these factors come into play when the owner of the teleport seeks a financial valuation of the property, whether for purchase, sale or financing purposes. This report shares the insights of experts with experience in finance and law as well as experienced teleport and satellite executives. It explores how valuation is done, how owners can maximize value and buyers can avoid overpaying, and how to achieve success in financing a facility.
